The CPI (M) state secretary and politburo member Jiten Chowdhury has called for a more united and resolute fight against the anti-people policies and activities against the BJP governments in state and centre. “As long as these governments last there is no future for the depressed and poorer classes of society and the least we can do is to fight them unitedly and more intensely to ensure their removal from power” said Jiten.

He was speaking in the tenth state conference of the Tripura Harijan development committee in the hall of the ‘Krishak Kshet Mazoor’ union office in Melarmath area of Agartala. The formal beginning of the conference had been preceded by salutation to the flag ,hoisting and at the martyrs column. The conference was also attended by former MLAs and senior party leaders Sudhan Das and Ratan Bhowmik and they addressed the gathering of delegates and office bearers of the Tripura Harijan Samity.

In his speech Jiten Chowdhury portrayed a grim picture of the county , specially in the context of the persecution of depressed classes of people including minorities across the country under BJP’s ‘misrule’. “Even a single day does not pass when we do not read in or listen to media about repression and persecution of people belonging to depressed classes and minorities ; this horrible situation can not be allowed to continue” said Jiten.

He accused the ruling BJP in state and centre of pursuing policies only in the interests of big corporate sharks as national assets are being given on a platter to them . “Many crucial sectors including defence , space programme are being handed over to corporates operating in the country and abroad ; this is a national risk and moreover if the government sectors are privatised the point of reservation of jobs will have no meaning and a large section of people of the country , the most depressed and backward, are going to be deprived of the constitutional benefit of reservation” said Jiten. He urged upon the delegates to bring about more unity and momentum for a resolute struggle against the anti-working class and anti-depressed classes of people.

At the end of the conference a 32-member new state committee and a thirteen member state secretariat of the Tripura Harijan Development Committee were constituted. Shankar Barma Harijan was reelected as new president while Partha Basphore was reelected as the new secretary of the outfit.
