Controversial Social media activist Madhavi Biswas who had spent 75 days in jail custody after being arrested on October 26 by police from her residence in Jogendra Nagar area of Agartala finally came out of Prabhurampur jail last night. However, she was rearrested by police this morning in connection with another case in Sonamura police station this morning and produced in court there. Madhavi Biswas had earned considerable notoriety across the state and outside after posting a long series of objectionable comments through her ‘Facebook’ ID against leaders of the ruling party and ministers had been arrested by police in connection with a complaint filed by one Paramita Ghosal of Ram Nagar area with the West Agartala police station. She had two other cases registered against her with the East Agartala police station and also Sonamura police station.
Sources from the court said that she had been produced in court and sent to seven days of police custody for interrogation and then she had been sent to jail custody. The arrest of Madhavi Biswas had created a stir in the state but recently she got conditional bail from the high court though she was to appear in CJM court in Sonamura in another case but she was rearrested by a team of Sonamura police station this morning from her residence and produced in CJM court there. The outcome of the court proceedings today is still awaited .
Meanwhile, another social media activist Saikat Talapatra who had also been arrested two years ago from Calcutta in connection with a large number of cases following his vilification campaign in social media against many important political personalities of the state has been languishing in jail ever since. Saikat has so many cases registered against him in different police stations across the state and unless there is intervention from high court he is unlikely to obtain bail even in next two years.
