Tribal Welfare Minister Bikash Debbarma on Sunday visited the Reang Bru rehabilitation village at Khahamthai Para in the Damchhara area of North Tripura district, close to the Mizoram border, to assess the living conditions and long-pending problems faced by the residents.
The minister was accompanied by several senior officials of the Tribal Welfare Department. Officials said the visit was aimed at reviewing the ground situation of the remote border village, which has remained largely neglected over the years due to its difficult geographical location.
The Reang Bru families residing in the rehabilitation village have been facing severe socio-economic hardships for the past 21 years. Inadequate access to education, healthcare, employment opportunities and other basic amenities has adversely affected their quality of life. Villagers alleged that administrative services failed to reach the area regularly because of its isolation.
During the visit, Debbarma held an interactive meeting with the residents, where members of the community shared their daily struggles. Acute shortage of drinking water, poor healthcare facilities, limited educational opportunities and lack of sustainable livelihood options emerged as major concerns.
The minister listened to the grievances and directed the concerned officials to take immediate and effective steps to ensure the fulfilment of basic needs. He assured the villagers that under the present BJP government, focused efforts would be made to improve the socio-economic condition of the Reang Bru community.
Official sources said a comprehensive action plan would be prepared to strengthen infrastructure, generate employment and ensure proper implementation of government welfare schemes, raising fresh hope among the long-deprived residents.
