West Agartala police station recover stolen Rs 6.80 from thief

In a successful operation the personnel of West Agartala police station recovered Rs 6.80 lakhs out of stolen Rs 7.20 lakhs from a house in Krishna Nagar area. The amount had been stolen on January 3. Giving details of the incident the SDPO (Sadar) Dhruba Nath said that leading contractor Sumit Deb of Krishna Nagar had kept Rs 7.20 lakhs in his residence at Krishna Nagar for investment in an ongoing construction work on January 2 but the very next day he found the entire amount missing .
After being informed of the theft the officers of the West Agartala police station launched a search operation and yesterday in the afternoon the police team nabbed a daily wage earner Amal Adhikary , a resident of Bisramgaj , from the Battala area of Agartala . While being grilled Amal confessed that he had stolen the money and Rs 6.80 lakhs out of the total amount of Rs 7.20 lakhs stolen. The money will be returned to the actual owner Sumit Deb soon.
The SDPO Dhruba Nath said that Amal Adhikary is a daily rated worker who used to work in the residence of contractor Sumit Deb and it was during one such visit on January 2 that he had trespassed into the living room and stolen the money. “According to his confession Amal has already spent Rs 40 thousand out of the stolen amount and the rest have been recovered by our police team” said SDPO Dhruba Nath.
