CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Monday alleged that the BJP government’s decision in 2018 to cancel recruitment lists prepared during the Left Front regime was the result of unilateral, arbitrary and illegal decisions taken by the then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, which cost thousands of eligible youths their jobs.

Addressing a press conference, Choudhury said that during the CPI(M)-led Left Front government, recruitment processes were lawfully completed and appointment letters were ready for distribution. However, after the BJP assumed power in 2018, the new government, under the leadership of then Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, chose not to distribute the prepared offer letters and instead cancelled the entire recruitment lists in one stroke.

“The cancellation was not based on law or administrative necessity. It was a one-sided and unlawful decision driven by political hostility towards the CPI(M),” Choudhury alleged, adding that the former Chief Minister had little understanding of legal procedures related to recruitment.

He said the decision plunged thousands of unemployed youths into uncertainty, despite the fact that their selections had been finalised through proper procedures during the Left Front tenure. According to the CPI(M) leader, the BJP government’s move was challenged in court, leading to prolonged legal battles in the Tripura High Court and eventually in the Supreme Court.

Choudhury stated that the Supreme Court ultimately ruled that the cancellation of the recruitment processes by the BJP government was illegal and directed the state authorities to resume the process and issue appointment letters to the selected candidates without further delay.

“Now, under the compulsion of the Supreme Court’s directive, the BJP government has been forced to take a decision to reissue and distribute those very offer letters which were prepared during the CPI(M) government,” he said.

As per the court’s orders, the state government has already issued appointment letters for several TCS and TPS posts and has also begun dispatching more than 700 appointment offers to Tripura State Rifles (TSR) jawans selected during the Left Front regime.

While welcoming the implementation of the Supreme Court’s verdict, the CPI(M) state secretary thanked the apex court for delivering justice to the affected candidates. At the same time, he questioned why the BJP government was sending the appointment letters quietly by post instead of distributing them publicly, as per its usual practice.

“This entire episode proves that the CPI(M)-led government had followed the law, and it was the BJP government’s illegal and unilateral decision that caused years of suffering for unemployed youths,” Choudhury said, describing the present developments as a clear vindication of the Left Front’s stand.
