Retired Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma, Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), has sought to be relieved from his post, stating that he is moving on to take newer and higher challenges. The statement has been mentioned in his resignation letter addressed to the Governor, in which he reflected on his service tenure and spiritual calling, without making any reference to the recent controversy surrounding him.

Col Kush Kumar Sharma had taken oath as the Chairman of TPSC on 27 June 2023 under Article 316 of the Constitution of India. In his resignation communication, he described his tenure as a service to the land of Maa Tripursundari and asserted that he discharged his duties to the best of his ethos, values, capabilities, and wisdom, contributing to nation building. He requested the competent authority to relieve him from his responsibilities with immediate effect or from any date deemed appropriate.

However, notably absent from the resignation letter is any mention of the alleged incident involving State Tourism, Transport and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury. According to reports and political discussions, Col Sharma was allegedly involved in an altercation and instances of inappropriate behaviour in drunken conditions at Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala, in which Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and his security personnel were also reportedly involved. It has been alleged that the incident occurred while Col Sharma was in an inebriated condition.

The silence of the resignation letter on this issue has drawn attention, as the alleged incident had reportedly created political and administrative ripples in the state. While Col Sharma has chosen to frame his exit in spiritual and philosophical terms, the timing of his resignation has led to widespread speculation linking it to the controversy.

So far, there has been no detailed official statement from Col Kush Kumar Sharma addressing the allegations, nor has his resignation letter offered any clarification regarding the Hotel Polo Towers episode. The matter now rests with the constitutional authorities, who are expected to take a decision on the acceptance of his resignation and the future leadership of the Tripura Public Service Commission.
