Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party would address the demands of the Janajati people on its own and not through others, in a remark seen as a veiled attack on regional parties ahead of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections.

Addressing a party joining programme at Barmura, Saha said politics based on deception and temporary arrangements could not sustain for long. He claimed that people in tribal areas had realised that genuine and inclusive development was possible only under the BJP government.

The chief minister welcomed 495 voters from 181 families who joined the BJP at the programme and said the growing support reflected people’s faith in the party’s development agenda. He asserted that the state government was committed to the all-round development and empowerment of the Janajati communities and would fulfil their aspirations with honesty and accountability.

Saha alleged that opposition parties had been using Janajati people for political gains and were attempting to obstruct development. He said the BJP would resolve all genuine issues of the tribal communities in line with the assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Referring to the Kokborok script issue, the chief minister said development should be the priority and questioned why efforts could not be made to adopt or develop scripts such as Devanagari for the language.

Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, state BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee and other senior party leaders were present at the programme.
