Bowing to persistent demands and public wishes the Tripura government has announced a brief five-day winter vacation for all schools. All the government run, private and government-aided schools across the state will come under the purview of the vacation. The reason for this is the severe cold wave sweeping the entire state over the past more than a week.

The chief minister Dr Manik Saha who had earlier said that he would look into the winter vacation and take an appropriate decision took to his verified social media handle to announce the much-awaited decision of his government . “It has been decided to close all schools (Govt/Govt Aided and privately managed) from 6th January to 10th January due to extreme cold weather condition “ said the chief minister in his ‘Facebook’ post. The necessary notification in this regard is being issued by the department of education.

Sources in the education department said that because of the continuing cold wave attendance of students in schools , particularly in the rural and hilly areas has dipped sharply . Even many teachers have either fallen ill or gone on leave and that is why guardians from across the state , specially those unable to buy winter clothes for their wards were demanding a holiday. The government’s decision taken today is a positive response to the growing public demand.
