Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Monday visited the Centre of Excellence (Vegetables) located at Bir Chandra Manu in South Tripura district and expressed strong optimism about its role in transforming the state’s agricultural landscape.

During the inspection, the minister highlighted that there are only sixty such Centres of Excellence across the entire country, and Tripura is privileged to host two of them. One centre is located at Jumerdhepa in Sepahijala district, while the other operates at Bir Chandra Manu in South Tripura, reflecting the state’s growing importance in advanced agricultural initiatives.

The Centre of Excellence (Vegetables) integrates modern Israeli and Indian agricultural technologies to produce high-quality vegetable seedlings throughout the year. Alongside seedling production, a wide variety of vegetables are also cultivated at the centre using scientific and climate-controlled methods.

A key highlight of the facility is the adoption of advanced soil-less nursery technology, which enables the production of healthy and disease-free seedlings with higher survival rates. The minister described the use of such cutting-edge techniques as truly commendable and forward-looking.

Expressing confidence in the project, Ratan Lal Nath stated that the Centre of Excellence (Vegetables) will open a new chapter in vegetable cultivation and overall agricultural development in Tripura. He emphasized that the knowledge, technology, and quality planting material generated from these centres will significantly benefit farmers, increase productivity, and strengthen the state’s agri-economy in the coming years.
