The super-secular CPI (M) which had no word to spare over the serial attacks and killing of hapless minority Hindus under the communal Yunus regime in Bangladesh today staged a protest programme in front of the West Agartala police station late in the afternoon demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the physical assault on poor rickshaw puller Deedar Hossain (50) in Ranjit Nagar area of Agartala last night. They shouted slogans for sometime and then a delegation of CPI (M) party leaders headed by Sadar district committee secretary Ratan Das met in deputation with the officer in charge of West Agartala police station Rana Chatterjee to press for arrest of the 4/5 culprits involved in the attack on Deedar Hossain in front of a club in Ranjit Nagar area . Sources from the West Agartala police station said that the OC Rana Chatterjee assured the CPI (M) delegation that he would take appropriate action to have the culprits arrested and then the CPI (M) leaders and activists left peacefully.
According to information Deedar Hossain , originally a resident of Bir Chandra Manu in south Tripura, has been living in Beterbon area of Agartala for the past twenty five years and maintaining his family by pulling a rented rickshaw. Last night Deedar had handed over his rented rickshaw with daily charge to the owner and was returning home at Beterbon on foot along the Gangail road . As he neared the local Nivedita club around 8-30 PM 4/5 unruly youths , possibly in heavily drunken condition, asked his name and when he told his name he was set upon and beaten up though the miscreants did not snatch his money. Deedar was seriously injured, particularly on his teeth and had to undergo treatment in GBP hospital . In protest against this attack a group of faithful population from Betern Bon and part of Ram Nagar staged a protest programme in front of the Ram Nagar police outpost , demanding arrest of the culprits. But the matter took political colour soon and was projected as an assault on fake and green secularism of the country, with MLA Sudip Roybarman taking no time to visit the Beter Bon area which forms part of his Agartala-6 constituency. Not to be left behind in seizing an opportunity, the CPI (M) also pounced on the issue.
Commenting on this a senior BJP leader who refused to be identified condemned the assault on Deedar Hossain and demanded the arrest of the assailants. But he also accused the CPI (M) of communalisng a crime . “The CPI (M) had no tear to shed over the inhuman hounding and attacks on minority Hindus in Bangladesh ; during the past one year many innocent Hindus have been killed, displaced and tortured cruelly in Bangladesh; many women have been raped and many Hindu houses have been set afire ; even during the past fortnight four innocent Hindus have been murdered brutally but there is nobody in the majority faithful section of Bangladeshi population even to condemn such gruesome incidents and demand action but here in Tripura CPI (M) is hyper-active to curry favour with the faithful population , many of whom are plain infiltrators” said the leader. He also said that the CPI (M) or Congress sheds profuse tears over the retaliatory killing of Gaza terrorists but have said ,nothing on the massacre of 1400 innocent Israelis by the terrorists on the night of October 7 2024. “Their selective tear-jerking and hypocritical homilies on perverse Indian secularism will lead them nowhere ; perhaps they have conveniently forgotten that it was their government in West Bengal that had opened the flood-gates to infiltration of Bangladeshi termites to West Bengal and the demography there is heading for a disaster for the Hindus” said the BJP leader.
