The chief minister Dr Manik Saha has said today that he is contemplating declaring a ten day winter vacation for all the educational institutions in the state, right from pre-primary section upwards to class XII. He was speaking to media persons after attending a programme.
Sources in the education department of which the chief minister is in charge as minister said that the matter has come up in the wake of the ‘special winter vacation’ from January 1 to 13th announced by the ADC authority in view of the cold wave sweeping the state.”We are also seized of the matter because of the current cold wave but this can not be done without due approval from the chief minister who is also in charge of the education portfolio; now that the chief minister has spoken his mind we will be awaiting his order ; the attendance of students at schools across the state, specially in the pre-primary primary and secondary sections has dipped to an all time low since the cold wave commenced” said an official of the education department.
A formal decision in this regard is likely to be announced soon. But the likely winter vacation will not be for more than ten days duration.
