A special talk titled "Recent Advances in Agriculture to Increase Farmers' Income in Tripura" was organized at Sabroom Michael Madhusudhan Dutta (MMD) College in association with the Tripura Agriculture College of Lambuchhara. The event was graced by Professor (Dr.) Debashish Sen, the Principal of Tripura Agriculture College, who served as the resource person. The program was presided over by Dr. Anupam Guha, Principal of MMD College. Also present were Dr. Abhijit Saha, Dr. Tridip Bhattacharjee, Dr. Durgaprasad Abhasti, and other distinguished guests were also present in the programme. Participants in the discussion included farmers from the adopted villages under the NSS unit of the college, along with professors and students. During the talk Professor Sen elaborated on the current initiatives of the Agriculture College, including the production of onion seeds through the 'Bulb-to-Seed' method, where bulbs (corms) are preserved from the previous year for planting in the next season to produce flowers and seeds, as well as direct seed-to-plant cultivation. He also discussed farming techniques for banana, different varieties of sesame, pearl millet, and millet cultivation methods.

He emphasized that to increase farmers' income in Tripura, modern technology, crop diversification, organic farming, and enhanced marketing are being promoted. This includes establishing new training centers, agricultural mechanization, integrated farming practices (such as mixed vegetable cultivation and livestock farming), and government-supported initiatives like the 'Krishi Vikas' project, which have led to increased food grain production and improved farmers' income and self-reliance.

Dr. Anupam Guha mentioned that digital agriculture technologies such as drone and satellite surveillance are being encouraged. He highlighted that by integrating home-based farming; growing vegetables, mushrooms, spices, and livestock (chickens, goats)—farmers are increasing their income and improving their quality of life. He added that the current efforts of Tripura Agriculture College have enriched the community, and in the days ahead, the college will conduct special training and discussions on various agricultural topics, especially in Dolbari, on cultivating crops like Rajma (Phaseolus vulgaris) or kidney beans, under the college's project initiatives.

Dr. Arup Patari, NSS Program Officer, expressed gratitude to all.
