The ‘Momin’ quest for material property and posthumous rehabilitation in an illusory paradise of lurid earthly pleasures by killing non-believers (Hindus in this context) in the hell-scape of Bangladesh seems to be gaining in further momentum. After the murder of Deepu Chandra Das (40), Amrit Mandal (28) and Bajendra Das (36) in Mymensing district and Rajbari area near Dhaka and Kamdeb Das (24) in Habiganj district within a span of past fourteen days , another Hindu businessman identified as Khokan Chandra Das (5) was set upon by a ‘Momin’ gang on last December 31st night. He is now battling for life in Dhaka Government Medical College (DGMC) in a critical condition.
Sources from Bangladesh said that Khokan Chandra Das who ran a medicine shop and was dealing in currency exchange business in Shariatpur market, 150 kms away from Dhaka, had been returning home on the night of December 31 on his motor bike with his day’s sale proceeds in his bag. As he was passing through the Dumuria area he was thrown off his motor bike by a gang of three ‘Momins’ who also snatched away his bag containing cash. At this moment Khokan Chandra recognized two of the three attackers and took their names. Rattled by the identification which could lead to their arrest the trio poured petrol on Khokan Chandra Das’s body and set him afire before running away. Out of desperation Khokan Chandra Das jumped into a nearby pond to have the fire on his body doused and a group of local people rushed up and arranged to send him to Shariatpur hospital. The doctor there examined him and referred him to DGMC for better treatment and he is struggling for life there.
Sources said that the latest attack on Khokan Chandra has further deepened the panic and fear psychosis among the Hindus across Bangladesh. During the past seventeen months of the misrule of the illegitimate interim government in Bangladesh organized attacks and murders of minority Hindus have continued unabated. Significantly, there is no positive move or statement by the interim government, , its fundamentalist patrons and the ‘Godi’ media against this persistent Hindu hounding . “There is absolutely no condemnation of these gruesome killings , pillaging and worse by the ‘Momins’ from any one in polltical parties or the media ; a section of media wash their hands off such incidents by simply putting out the news while others keep deafeningly silent; this is the fate of minorities in Bangladesh” said sources.
