The controversy surrounding the Chairperson of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), Colonel (Retd.) Kush Kumar Sharma, has taken a new turn, with the embattled official reportedly unwilling to tender his resignation and instead attempting to seek relief on medical grounds.

Highly placed sources said that Colonel Sharma visited a doctor on Wednesday and conveyed to the TPSC office that he was unwell. It is alleged that he is trying to project himself as a victim, claiming that he was beaten up by security personnel attached to Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury during the recent incident that triggered statewide outrage. No official confirmation of this claim has been issued so far.

Despite intense public pressure and widespread demands for his removal, the TPSC Chairperson is understood to be firmly not willing to resign, complicating the situation for the state government.

Sources in the administration admitted that the government is currently in a state of dilemma, as the matter involves a constitutional post and any action must strictly adhere to legal procedures. The state government has reportedly sought detailed legal opinion for future action against TPSC Chairman.

Adding to the complexity, political circles are abuzz with reports that pressure groups based in Delhi have become active, allegedly lobbying to ensure that no action is taken against Colonel Sharma. These developments have further constrained the state government’s options and slowed down the decision making process, sources said.

Officials, however, maintained that the government is aware of public sentiment and the seriousness of the allegations. “The matter is being examined from all legal and constitutional angles. No hasty step will be taken, but the issue cannot be brushed aside either,” a senior official remarked.

The unfolding episode has not only dented the image of the TPSC but has also intensified criticism over the appointment of outsiders to key constitutional and administrative positions in Tripura. As the standoff continues, public scrutiny remains high, with citizens closely watching whether the government will act decisively or yield to external pressure.
