In a shocking late-night incident, the Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC), Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma (Retd.), was detained by police after allegedly creating a drunken ruckus and misbehaving with Tripura Tourism Transport and Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury inside Hotel Polo Towers in Agartala on Tuesday night.

The incident occurred at around 11 pm when Minister Chowdhury was leaving the hotel after attending the Prabasi Tripura Sammelan. Colonel Sharma, who was along with his family, was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, according to eyewitnesses.

Sources present at the spot said that a vehicle belonging to the TPSC Chairman was parked at the hotel gate, obstructing the minister’s convoy. When the minister’s driver requested that the vehicle be moved to allow smooth passage to Minister, Colonel Sharma allegedly refused and began arguing with the driver.

As the situation escalated, the minister himself approached and attempted to resolve the matter calmly. However, the TPSC Chairman allegedly used abusive language in Hindi, questioned the minister’s identity, and refused to clear the passage despite repeated requests.

The situation further deteriorated when Colonel Sharma and his drunken son allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with the minister’s security staff. Two vehicles reportedly used by the TPSC Chairman’s family continued to block the exit, leaving the minister temporarily stranded at the hotel gate.

Following the escalation, police were called to the spot. Senior officers, including Inspector General of Police Krishnendu Chakraborty, IPS and Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, IPS rushed to Hotel Polo Towers.

Earlier, Additional Superintendent of Police Dhruva Nath, along with officers from NCC and West Agartala police stations, tried for a prolonged period to defuse the situation.

Amid the chaos, Colonel Sharma alleged before media persons present at the scene that he and his son were assaulted by the minister’s security personnel. However, eyewitnesses claimed that both were behaving in an aggressive and unruly manner.

Considering their condition, police took the TPSC Chairman and his son to IGM Hospital for medical examination. Later in the night, both were detained at West Agartala Police Station.

Notably. Colonel Kush Kumar Sharma has been serving as the Chairman of the Tripura Public Service Commission since July 2023 and is a retired Indian Army officer with over 30 years of service.
