Former Tripura High Court Judge Justice Satyagopal Chattopadhyay Appointed GST Appellate Tribunal Member, Posted to Kolkata Bench

Retired judge of the Tripura High Court, Justice Satyagopal Chattopadhyay, has been appointed as one of the 49 Members of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) constituted across the country. His name has been officially notified by the Government of India, and he has been posted to the Kolkata Bench of the Tribunal. Justice Satya Gopal Chattopadhyay (born 25 March 1963) is former judge of the High Court of Tripura from March 2020 until his retirement on 31 December 2022

According to a Government of India notification issued through Office Order No. 03/2025, dated December 26, 2025, the allocation of benches to the newly appointed Members of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal has been finalized last three months back with the approval of the competent authority.

The order, issued by the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance, covers postings of Technical Members (Centre), Technical Members (State), and Judicial Members to GSTAT benches located across various States and Union Territories on December 26.

As per the notification, GSTAT benches have been established in a wide range of locations, including Patna, Lucknow, Dehradun, Prayagraj, Ranchi, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Shimla, Mumbai, Guwahati, Rajkot, Coimbatore, Pune, Chandigarh, Jammu, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Bhopal, Jodhpur, Ernakulam, Cuttack, Gurugram, Raipur, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ghaziabad, Nagpur, Jaipur, and several other centres.

The Office Order clearly specifies allocations under three distinct categories, Technical Members (Centre), Technical Members (State), and Judicial Members, aimed at ensuring a balanced deployment of legal and technical expertise across all GSTAT benches for effective adjudication of GST-related disputes.

All newly appointed Members, including Justice Chattopadhyay, have been directed to assume charge at their respective benches on January 21, 2026.
