Woman contractor threatened with murder by sand mafia in Golaghati , police inaction raises eyebrows

The business of contract work is longer an exclusive male bastion, at least in Tripura. Much to the surprise of male-folk in the troubletorn contract work field ,a woman from Golaghati area under Bishalgarh subdivision had obtained registration as a contractor for construction work sometime ago . This was however dismissed as an aberration and the male-folk derided this away as the misadventure of a desperate woman looking for avenue of earning.

But Saraswati had to face a challenge in her journey as contractor while constructing boulders along the Vijay river that glides through Bishalgarh westward. While supervising her work Saraswati Lodh had been physically assaulted by the local sand mafia Sukanta Ghosh whose bid for the work had failed . Emboldened by his close association with the ruling party and blood relation with local BJP leader Bhabatosh Ghosh, Sukanta had launched the attack on Saraswati. He had been incensed by Saraswati’s complaint against his activities as sand mafia and the forest department took action against Sukanta.

After being assaulted by Sukanta , contractor Saraswati Lodh filed a complaint with the Takarjala police station with specific names of attackers and also the time and place . But the Takarjala police station, working under pressure from the ruling party , has so far taken no action against mafia Sukanta Ghosh. Reacting to what had happened to her , Saraswati Lodh today spoke to media persons and gave a description of the shameful incident of attack on herself while demanding justice and arrest of sand mafia Sukanta Ghlosh.
