State Mourning in Tripura Over Demise of Assembly Speaker Biswabandhu Sen, State Funeral on December 27

The Government of Tripura has announced three days of State Mourning following the sad demise of Biswabandhu Sen, Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly. According to an official notification issued by the General Administration (Political) Department on Thursday, the period of State Mourning will be observed across the state from December 26 to December 28, 2025 (both days inclusive).

Biswabandhu Sen passed away at 3:30 am on December 26, 2025, in Bengaluru. The mortal remains of the departed Speaker will be brought from Bengaluru to Agartala on Friday, December 27.

As a mark of respect, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast throughout the state during the mourning period, and no official entertainment will be organised. The State Government has also decided that all offices of the State Government, including PSUs and all educational institutions, will remain closed on December 26, 2025.

The notification further stated that Biswabandhu Sen will be accorded a State Funeral on December 27, 2025, in Agartala, with full state honours.

The passing away of the Speaker has cast a deep pall of gloom across Tripura, with leaders from across the political spectrum and citizens expressing profound grief and paying tribute to his contributions to public life and the legislative institution of the state.
