Around 2,000 aspirants who qualified the recently conducted Teachers’ Eligibility Test on Tuesday expressed strong resentment over the delay in completing the recruitment process and demanded appointment for all successful candidates.

Hundreds of TET-qualified candidates assembled in front of Siksha Bhavan here to press for early recruitment. Speaking to reporters, an aspirant said they had appeared for the examination last year, with 368 candidates qualifying Paper I and 1,488 clearing Paper II. He alleged that even qualified certificates were initially withheld and were issued only after repeated protests.

“Despite qualifying, we have no clarity on when recruitment will be completed. Neither the Chief Minister nor any other authority has given us a definite assurance, which is deeply worrying,” he said.

The aspirants claimed that an RTI response revealed 1,368 vacant posts of Undergraduate Teachers and 2,793 posts of Graduate Teachers in the education department. Citing an acute shortage of teachers in government schools, they urged the government to appoint all TET-qualified candidates in a single phase.

Later, a delegation met the Director of Elementary Education. According to the protestors, the official heard their grievances and noted their demands, but said recruitment could not proceed without clearance from the finance department.

The aspirants warned of intensifying their agitation if the issue remained unresolved.
