The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tripura has strongly condemned the ongoing violence against the Hindu community in Bangladesh, describing the situation as a grave humanitarian crisis and a brutal assault on centuries-old cultural and religious heritage.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Rajib Bhattacharjee, BJP Tripura President and Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, expressed deep anguish over what he termed as continuing genocide of Hindus and barbaric attacks on our thousand-year-old cultural legacy in Bangladesh.
Bhattacharjee said the repeated incidents of killings, vandalism of temples, land grabbing of religious institutions, and destruction of culturally significant sites clearly indicate that minorities in Bangladesh are living under constant fear and insecurity. “These are not isolated incidents. They reflect a systematic attempt to erase religious identity and cultural heritage,” he stated.
Global Moral Responsibility
Emphasizing the broader implications of the crisis, Rajib Bhattacharjee said that ensuring the safety, dignity, and rights of religious minorities has now become a moral obligation of the global community. He urged international human rights organizations and democratic nations to take serious note of the situation and exert pressure to stop further atrocities.
“The world cannot remain silent when minority communities are being targeted repeatedly. Silence today will only encourage more violence tomorrow,” he warned.
The issue has also drawn strong reactions from the Tripura government leadership. Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has on multiple occasions expressed concern over the safety of Hindus in Bangladesh and called for decisive action to protect minority rights.
Echoing similar sentiments, Tripura BJP Minister Ratan Nath also condemned the attacks, stating that violence against Hindus and the destruction of cultural heritage in Bangladesh are deeply disturbing and unacceptable in any civilized society.
Social Media Statement Rajib Bhattacharjee further highlighted the issue through his social media posts, where he reiterated that attacks on temples, religious leaders, and Bengali cultural icons are direct attacks on pluralism, coexistence, and shared history of the Bengal region. He called upon people of conscience, both within India and abroad, to raise their voices against injustice.
Political observers note that the strong and united reaction from Tripura’s BJP leadership reflects growing concern in the state, given its cultural, historical, and geographical proximity to Bangladesh. Many believe that sustained international attention is crucial to prevent further escalation and to ensure accountability.
The BJP leaders concluded by demanding immediate steps to safeguard minority communities, protect cultural and religious institutions, and restore confidence among persecuted groups in Bangladesh.
