KVK-Sepahijala Organize Demonstration on Scientific Vegetable Production

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sepahijala, CAU (I), Tripura in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (ICAR-IIHR), Hessaraghatta Lake Post, Bengaluru organized “Demonstration on Scientific Vegetable Production” at North Charilam GP, Charilam R.D. block, Sepahijala Tripura on 22nd December. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Anupam Mishra, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, CAU, Imphal. This programme was held with the objective to increase the area under scientific vegetable cultivation of IIHR varieties. The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Tusar Kanti Behera, Director, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru; Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VII, Umiam, Meghalaya; Prof. Ph. Ranjit Sharma, Director of Extension Education, CAU (I), Manipur; Prof. Arun Bhai Patel, Dean, College of Fisheries, CAU (I), Lembucherra, Tripura; Dr T. Sakthivel, Principal Scientist (Horticulture), Division of Fruit Crops, ICAR-IIHR, Bengaluru and Dr Shatabhisa Sarkar, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Sepahijala.
At the outset of the programme, Sudhan Debnath, former member, North Charilam and Pushparani Debnath, woman farmer, North Charilam gave an insight into the importance of scientific vegetable production and encouraged the farmers to increase the area under IIHR varieties for more production and income enhancement.
Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK-Sepahijala briefed about the nursery bed preparation, seed treatment, field preparation, spacing, lime application, eco-friendly insect pest and disease management etc. During the programme experts practically demonstrated the nursery bed preparation for easy understanding of farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr Utpal Dey, SMS (Plant Protection), KVK-Sepahijala. Thirty five interested farmers, farm women, rural youth actively participated in the programme and discussed on different issues related to seedbed preparation, pest management. Different vegetable seeds from IIHR, Bengaluru were distributed among the farmers.
