Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday said that debate plays a vital role in expanding free thinking and sharpening logical abilities, particularly among students. He observed that the structured presentation of arguments in a debate helps participants learn the art of reasoning and expression, making such platforms especially relevant in the present time.
The Chief Minister was speaking after inaugurating a debate organised by the Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation at Agartala Town Hall. He stressed the need for organising similar debates more frequently at school and college levels to nurture young minds.
Dr. Saha said that regular participation in debates helps students build courage, confidence and effective speaking skills. He added that debates also contribute to a deeper understanding of history, encourage proper utilisation of opportunities and enable objective evaluation of talent. According to him, Tripura has no dearth of talented students, and such initiatives provide a timely platform to harness and showcase their abilities.
Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for Sabka Saath, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas, the Chief Minister urged everyone to contribute collectively towards building a New Tripura. He said that the goal of a Viksit Bharat can only be achieved when all states progress together, and Tripura is steadily working in that direction.
Dr. Saha also noted that the Prime Minister has been highlighting Tripura’s development at various national forums. He praised the Advocate Dilip Sarkar Memorial Foundation for its consistent social initiatives.
Forest Minister Animesh Debbarma, Chairperson of the Tripura Human Rights Commission retired Justice Arindam Lodh, and several other dignitaries were present at the programme.
