Royal scion and Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarman has strongly advocated for extending due recognition to Tripura’s senior cricket team captain Manishankar Murasing by appointing him as the Brand Ambassador of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). Taking to social media, Pradyot Kishore asserted that irrespective of whether Murasing plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or not, he remains a source of immense pride for Tripura.

Murasing’s failure to secure a buyer in the IPL 2026 auction has come as a major disappointment for cricket lovers across the state. Once again, the name of Tripura’s most consistent and experienced cricketer went unsold, leaving fans heartbroken and raising serious questions about the systemic challenges faced by players from smaller cricketing states.

Reacting to the development, Pradyot Kishore emphasised that the issue should not be viewed merely through the lens of an individual player missing out on the IPL. Instead, he pointed towards deeper structural concerns. He questioned how supportive and player-friendly Tripura’s cricket ecosystem truly is, and whether there exists a transparent, long-term roadmap to nurture and showcase local talent at the national level.

Observers note that when a team consistently struggles to perform in domestic cricket, it inevitably affects the perception of its players among IPL franchises. In such a scenario, even capable and proven cricketers like Murasing find it difficult to attract confidence from franchise selectors. This, many believe, is the harsh reality confronting Tripura cricket today.

Pradyot Kishore, echoing the sentiments of many sports enthusiasts, called for introspection rather than blame. He stressed that the Tripura Cricket Board must become more accountable, transparent, and professional in its functioning. According to him, the state has no dearth of talent, but what remains missing is a clear vision and genuine intent to groom players for higher platforms.

Calling Manishankar Murasing our pride, Pradyot Kishore urged institutions and society alike to stand by their athletes, especially when they face setbacks beyond their control. He reiterated that recognition through roles like a TTAADC Brand Ambassador would not only honour Murasing’s contribution but also send a strong message of encouragement to young sportspersons across Tripura.

Many believe that unless urgent reforms are undertaken, Tripura cricket will continue to face similar disappointments year after year. The setback of Murasing, therefore, has once again ignited a larger debate on the future direction of cricket in the state and the need for meaningful structural change.
