Widespread public anger has erupted across Tripura following the tragic death of a 23-year-old delivery boy, allegedly driven to suicide after being publicly assaulted and humiliated at his workplace. Despite the incident occurring several days ago, no arrest has been made so far, triggering protests and serious questions about the state’s law enforcement response.

The deceased, Prasenjit Sarkar (23), a resident of the Dharmanagar Kameswar area, was working as a delivery boy with a private courier company, Blue Dart. According to allegations, a woman identified as Sangita Bhattacharjee, a schoolteacher by profession, physically assaulted him in public over a delivery-related issue. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, subjecting Prasenjit to extreme humiliation and mental trauma.

Family members and locals allege that the public assault and the circulation of the video deeply affected Prasenjit’s self-respect and mental health. Unable to cope with the humiliation, the young man allegedly took his own life, leaving behind a grieving mother and family.

The incident has sparked mass protests in Dharmanagar and other parts of the state, with demonstrators demanding immediate arrest of all accused persons and exemplary punishment. Protesters warned that failure to act swiftly would lead to intensified statewide agitation.

Even after four days, police have not arrested the main accused, a delay that has drawn sharp criticism from civil society, youth organizations, and ordinary citizens. Many allege selective silence by a section of the media, accusing it of diverting attention instead of questioning why the state government has failed to act promptly.

In the meantime, a private school has removed the accused woman from her teaching duties. While the institution was under no legal obligation to do so, it stated that the step was taken from a humanitarian and ethical standpoint. However, protestors argue that administrative action by a private institution cannot substitute for criminal accountability.

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has posted on social media assuring that justice will not be delayed. However, this assurance has failed to calm public anger, as people point out that assurances without action mean little when no arrests have been made.

The central question dominating public discourse remains: Why has the accused not been brought under the ambit of law even after four days?

Many are also questioning whether political patronage is shielding the accused and whether the rule of law is being selectively applied. Protesters warn that if justice is delayed further, it will amount to a serious blow to public faith in the legal system.

As Tripura watches closely, the demand from the streets is loud and clear: Immediate arrests, a fair investigation, and justice for Prasenjit Sarkar without fear or favour.
