The dystopian hell-scape of Bangladesh, ruled by the illegitimate Yunus regime, is turning out to be a grave-yard of all progressive and liberal thinkers, authors and poets who do not see eye-to-eye with the usurper regime. More than a hundred journalists, hundreds of liberal and progressive thinkers and creative souls are already in jail without trial and there is apparently no relief from the unconstitutional regime propped up by the medieval fundamentalist Jamatis. Regarding the daily trials and tribulations of minuscule minority Hindus and Buddhists under the barbaric regime the less said the better.

But the latest twist in the continuing crackdown on all liberal and progressive writers, thinkers and media persons has come from the confinement in custody of prominent actress and singer Meher Afroz Shaon (55), second wife of legendary novelist , playwright and short story writer late Humayun Ahmed (1948-2012) yesterday . Meher has been taken into custody arbitrarily along with popular female models Mariya Kishtu and Rashida Imtiaz and journalist Anees Alamgir on unsaid charges . But it is widely believe across Bangladesh that all four have been taken into custody for alleged sympathy with the ousted Awami League and implicit opposition to the incumbent repressive regime. Sources from Bangladesh said that the incumbent interim government is rattled by its growing lack of acceptability among the people and open expression of dissent against its policies and programmes and that is why it has been cracking down on all progressive and liberal elements n the cooked up ground that the dissenters are in league with the banned Awami League.

Meanwhile, sources from Bangladesh said that recently the external affairs ministry of Bangladesh summoned Indian high commissioner Pranay Verma to convey their displeasure of the online campaign and addresses of ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina from her ‘safe house’ in India. The external affairs ministry’s mandarins renewed their demand for extradition of Sheikh Hasina by the government of India and a forced halt to her online campaign and ‘provocation’. For his part, Pranay Verma assured the Bangladesh government that he will convey their views to the government of India and India’s commitment to the overall welfare of Bangladesh and its people.
