Renowned physician from Tripura, Dr Pradip Bhaumik, has been nominated to a key committee of the World Gastroenterology Organization (WGO), marking a significant global recognition for the state’s medical fraternity.

In an official communication, Professor Geoffrey Metz, President of the World Gastroenterology Organization, informed Dr Bhaumik of his selection as a Member of the Media and Community Engagement Committee of WGO. Dr Bhaumik will serve in this prestigious position for a two-year term, from January 2026 to December 2027.

Established in 1958, the World Gastroenterology Organization is a global federation comprising 120 gastroenterology and hepatology member societies along with four regional associations. It represents over 60,000 medical professionals worldwide and plays a crucial role in enhancing education, training, and standards in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy, and related disciplines. The guiding theme of WGO is Inform. Educate. Train. Advocate.

Dr Bhaumik has an extensive record of national-level involvement in professional medical bodies. He has served as a National Governing Body Member of the Association of Physicians of India (API) for the terms 2022–2025 and 2025–2028. He also held the position of Sectional President (Medicine, including Physiology) at the Indian Science Congress Association during 2023–2024.

Apart from his academic and professional engagements, Dr Pradip Bhaumik is the Founder President and Director of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura, one of the state’s most prominent health-oriented social organizations. Under his leadership, the foundation has been actively implementing innovative and community-focused health programmes across Tripura, particularly in the areas of liver health awareness and disease prevention.

Medical experts believe that Dr Bhaumik’s nomination to a global confederation of digestive health will further strengthen Tripura’s presence on the international medical platform and help promote community science and public health initiatives at a global level.

Dr Pradip Bhaumik has expressed his gratitude to all concerned for the trust and recognition extended to him.
