With the aim of creating awareness among the people of Tripura about the quality, significance, and growing potential of tea produced in the state, the Tripura Tea Development Corporation (TTDC) will organise the annual ‘Run for Tea’ event in Agartala on December 17.
Like previous years, the programme is being organised by TTDC, but this year it will feature an added attraction, a three-kilometre cross-country running competition. This information was shared by TTDC Chairman Samir Ghosh during a press conference held in the state capital on Monday.
The Chairman informed that the event is being jointly organised by the Indian Tea Board and the Tripura Tea Development Corporation, reflecting a collaborative effort to promote Tripura’s tea sector and highlight its importance to the state’s economy and livelihood opportunities.
The ‘Run for Tea’ will begin at 6:30 am on December 17 from the front of the Bir Chandra State Central Library in Agartala and is expected to witness participation from runners and tea enthusiasts from different sections of society.
Providing details about the newly introduced cross-country run, Samir Ghosh said that cash prizes will be awarded to the top performers. The first prize winner will receive Rs. 5,000, the second prize Rs. 3,000, and the third prize Rs. 2,000. In addition, the first ten participants will be given consolation prizes to encourage wider participation.
The annual ‘Run for Tea’ has become an important platform to connect citizens with Tripura’s tea heritage, while this year’s inclusion of a competitive cross-country race is expected to add greater enthusiasm and public engagement to the event.
