Police in Dharma Nagar have launched a manhunt for three women and two men for physical assault and abetment to suicide of delivery boy in Dharma Nagar. All five have absconded from their homes in Dharma Nagar, presumably fearing arrest by police. Police sources from Dharma Nagar said that none of the five accused had been found at home but the manhunt is on to trace them out.

According to details available from Dharma Nagar police, Prasenjit Sarkar (23), a delivery boy with the Blue Dart courier service in the town , had spoken over mobile to Susmita Bhattacharya , a resident of railway station road area on Saturday last , and requested her to draw a packet from their courier service office . But the telephone call degenerated into a quarrel and Susmita Bhattacharya demanded that the packet be delivered at her home and charged Prasenjit with rudeness. Soon Susmita Bhattacharya , accompanied by her relatives and friends Sangita Bhattacharya, Piu Dhar, Saurav Bhattacharya and Meghdweep Bhattacharya appeared in the Blue Dart courier office in Rajbari area and physically assaulted Praqsenjit Sarkar and forced him to sit up with hands on ears .

That night Prasenjit did not return home at Kameshwar village under Dharma Nagar police station because of the insult and assault on him by the quintet. After searching for him for long while Prasenjit’s father Nepal Sarkar (48) and relatives came across his body hanging lifeless from a tree in the jungle near their home. Horror struck by the suicide of his son, Nepal Sarkar filed a FIR with the Dharma Nagar police station accusing Sangita, Susmita, Piu , Saurav and Meghdweep of having murdered his son by beating. The police registered the FIR and launched a search operation to arrest the culprits but all of them had left ,homes by then. Sources from Dharma Nagar said that the accused persons had beaten up and grossly insulted Prasenjit and abetted his suicide and they will be charged accordingly under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS) after arrest and charge-sheeting. Sources however added that the procedure will be started after receipt of the post-mortem report of deceased Prasenjit.
