Brinda Debbarma Elected New President of AIDWA Tripura State Committee, Swapna Dutta Continues as Secretary

The 21st State Conference of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), Tripura State Committee, concluded yesterday successfully after two days of deliberations, marking the emergence of new leadership for the organisation in the state. Brinda Debbarma has been elected as the new President of the Tripura State Committee, while Swapna Dutta has been re-elected as the Secretary, continuing in her organisational role.

The two-day conference was held in Agartala and witnessed the participation of 420 delegates from different parts of Tripura, reflecting wide organisational representation. Out of these, 30 delegates actively took part in an in-depth discussion on the editorial and organisational reports, highlighting key issues related to women’s rights, social justice, and organisational strengthening.

The conference was graced by the presence of Mariam Dhawale, All India General Secretary of AIDWA, as the chief guest. Her address focused on the national perspective of the women’s movement and the challenges ahead in safeguarding democratic and constitutional values.

Following the conference, a new 85-member State Committee was constituted. Among them, 19 members are newly inducted, indicating a conscious effort to bring in fresh leadership. The composition of the committee reflects a strong emphasis on social and community representation, with 22 members from the Scheduled Tribes, 13 from the Scheduled Castes, members from minority communities, and 11 representatives from the Other Backward Classes.

In addition, a 23-member Editorial Board has been formed to assist in key decision-making and organisational planning. The conference reaffirmed AIDWA’s commitment to strengthening the women’s movement in Tripura through inclusive leadership, democratic functioning, and sustained grassroots engagement.
