Vivekanagar School, Agartala Wins Best School Award as Ramakrishna Mission Showcases Wide-Ranging Achievements at 116th AGM

The Ramakrishna Mission marked a significant year of spiritual, educational and humanitarian accomplishments at its 116th Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Belur Math on Sunday. The meeting highlighted the Mission’s expanding national and international footprint, notable institutional recognitions, and large-scale service activities benefiting millions.
Presiding over the AGM, Swami Suvirananda, General Secretary of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, presented the annual report of the Governing Body, outlining the organisation’s work during the financial year 2024–25.
The AGM noted several prestigious honours received by institutions run by the Ramakrishna Mission. In the school education sector, Vivekanagar School, Agartala, was conferred the Best School Award by the Government of Tripura in recognition of its academic excellence and holistic education. Kozhikode School also received the Best School Award from the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Society, Kozhikode, for its outstanding contribution to school education.
In higher education and research, Vidyamandira Residential College, Belur Math, achieved Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (SIRO) recognition from the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, underscoring its growing research capabilities.
Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute (RKMVERI) was selected to establish Centres of Natural Farming under the National Mission on Natural Farming, a flagship programme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) awarded A+ grade to the College of Education, Coimbatore, and Sikshanamandira, Belur Math.
Under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), several Mission-run colleges secured notable national rankings, including Vivekananda Centenary College, Rahara (3rd rank), Vidyamandira Residential College, Belur Math (17th rank), Narendrapur Residential College, Kolkata (24th rank), and Arts and Science College, Coimbatore (82nd rank).
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) recognised the Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra at Ranchi Morabadi for developing locally scented rice varieties, while the Maruthi College of Physical Education, Coimbatore, received the Yoga World Record Certificate and Institution of Excellence Award from the World Sports Yoga Federation, Hong Kong.
The Mission continued to expand its presence across the country. Five new Ramakrishna Mission branch centres were established at Haflong and Kuralbhanga in Assam, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh, and Sarati and Siliguri in West Bengal. Additionally, four new Ramakrishna Math centres were opened at Adipur in Gujarat, Kolhapur in Maharashtra, Pathanamthitta in Kerala, and Rewa in Madhya Pradesh.
During the year, the Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math carried out extensive humanitarian services through 244 branch centres and sub-centres across India. An expenditure of Rs. 1,670.79 crore was incurred on various service sectors, including education, medical services, general welfare, relief and rehabilitation, rural and tribal community welfare, spiritual and preaching activities, and publication of literature. These initiatives touched the lives of millions, reflecting the Mission’s enduring commitment to social service.
On the international front, a new Ramakrishna Mission centre was inaugurated in Washington, DC, USA. The Mission continued its service activities through 99 centres and sub-centres located in 24 countries outside India, strengthening its global outreach in education, spirituality and humanitarian service.
Concluding the AGM, Swami Suvirananda expressed heartfelt gratitude to monks, members, devotees and well-wishers for their unwavering support. He reaffirmed the Mission’s dedication to its guiding ideal of “Atmano Mokshartham Jagat Hitaya Cha”, working for one’s own spiritual liberation while serving the welfare of humanity.
