One After Another: Women Among Drug Traffickers Held Across Tripura, Agartala Woman Arrested in Dharmanagar with Huge Haul of Yaba

Tripura Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking across the state, leading to a series of major seizures and arrests in different districts. In the latest incidents, women and young men have been caught with large quantities of contraband, including yaba tablets, brown sugar, and ganja yesterday.
In a significant operation, police arrested a woman from the Rajbari area of Dharmanagar on Saturday afternoon with a huge consignment of yaba tablets. The accused has been identified as Shukla Debnath, aged 37. Although her permanent residence is at Devipur under Kamalasagar, she was currently living in a rented house at Chandrapur in Agartala. Acting on specific information, police intercepted her and recovered a total of 1,160 yaba tablets from her possession. According to police estimates, the seized tablets are worth around Rs. 12 lakh in the illegal market. She has been taken into custody, and a detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the source and network behind the consignment.
Meanwhile, in another operation on Friday morning, Kailashahar Police intercepted a motorcycle in the Chirakuti area under Kailashahar police station. During a thorough search, police recovered nearly 50 plastic containers suspected to contain brown sugar. Two youths were arrested in this connection. They have been identified as Bikram Dutta, aged 24, and Pratik Chand, aged 27, both residents of the Kumarghat police station area. Police sources estimate the market value of the recovered brown sugar at around Rs. 40,000. Both accused are being interrogated to trace possible links with inter-district drug peddling networks.
In a separate incident, police under Mungiakami police station seized a large quantity of ganja from the Ekchalliash Mile area. During a vehicle check, a Bolero vehicle was stopped and searched, leading to the recovery of 52 kilograms of ganja. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is around ₹10 lakh. Two persons, including the driver of the vehicle, were arrested on the spot. During preliminary interrogation, the accused claimed that the vehicle had come from the Sidhai–Mohanpur area. The seized Bolero vehicle has been taken into police custody.
These successive seizures highlight the growing challenge posed by drug trafficking in Tripura and the active role of law enforcement agencies in combating the menace. Police officials have reiterated that strict action will continue against those involved in the drug trade, irrespective of gender or location, to safeguard society, especially the youth, from the harmful effects of narcotics.
