A seminar on EV Charging- DISCOM Perspective held on the occasion of Energy Conservation Day brought together senior engineers, academicians, and utility officials to discuss Tripura’s preparedness for the rapid expansion of electric vehicles (EVs). The event was jointly organized yesterday by The Institution of Engineers (India), Tripura State Centre, and the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) at the TSECL Conference Hall in Agartala.

Presiding over the programme, Er. Paramananda Sarkar Banerjee, FIE, Chairman of IE(I) Tripura State Centre, highlighted India’s fast-evolving EV ecosystem. He emphasized that the shift to e-mobility is not just a change in the transportation sector but a catalyst for boosting grid resilience, accelerating smart technologies, and promoting sustainable practices across Tripura.

Delivering the keynote address, Er. Biswajit Basu, Managing Director, TSECL, presented a detailed analysis of national and state-level EV adoption trends. He outlined the rising demand for charging infrastructure, operational and regulatory challenges for DISCOMs, and government policies designed to accelerate EV deployment. He reaffirmed TSECL’s commitment to aligning with India’s broader electric mobility goals.

A technical presentation by Prof. (Dr.) Priyanath Das, FIE, Professor of Electrical Engineering, NIT Agartala, delved into the Impact of EV Charging Station Placement in Radial Distribution Networks. Introducing a novel EV Allocation Index-Based Solution, he focused on voltage stability, network loading, and the importance of optimal charger placement, key insights for future network planning and large-scale EV integration.

Adding further perspective, Er. Pradip Sutradhar, Additional General Manager, Electrical Circle–I, TSECL, explained the behavior of EVs within power systems, including their influence on demand patterns, feeder design, and load management. His session clarified several practical engineering considerations essential for upgrading Tripura’s distribution network.

The seminar also featured an important address by Shri Swapan Debbarma, General Manager (Tech), TSECL, who highlighted the EV-related initiatives currently underway in Agartala. He discussed ongoing collaborations with government agencies and updates on infrastructure rollout, offering participants a ground-level understanding of Tripura’s evolving EV roadmap.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Er. Mita Saha, MIE, Additional General Manager, TSECL, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, members, and participants. She noted that the insights shared during the seminar would significantly contribute to Tripura’s ongoing efforts toward sustainable energy and electric mobility.

The programme reaffirmed the strong commitment of IE(I) Tripura State Centre and TSECL to promoting awareness, technological advancement, and policy implementation in pursuit of a greener and more energy-efficient Tripura.
