The CPI (M) state secretary and leader of the opposition in state assembly, Jiten Chowdhury has called upon the leaders, workers and supporters of Gana Mukti Parishad, party’s once-powerful tribal front organisation to gear up for a resolute fight against the misrule of the BJP and Tipra Motha led state government and stop the plundering of the precious resources of people of the state. “There is no difference between the BJP on the one hand and the Tipra Motha and IPFT on the other; they are looting the precious resources of the state belonging to people, specially the tribals; unless this government is unseated democratically this government will totally destroy whatever is left of this state” said Jiten, addressing a large gathering of tribal people in Gandacherra Old Town Hall where the 9th subdivisional conference of GMP was held.
Before the conference began a large number of processions comprising mostly tribals clad in traditional attires had moved through Town Hall, Gandacherra market, Hospital chaumuhuni, Gandachera HS school and converged on the Old Town Hall. The delegate session of the conference commenced in the Old Town hall in the evening. “The BJP is trying to divide the people of the state and the country on caste and religious lines and so is Tipra Motha and IPFT; in this crisis situation our duty is to ensure maximum unity in the ranks and struggle in the interest of people so that the anti-people forces can be defeated and democracy restored” said Jiten. He said that the ADC constituted to empower the tribal people and protect their socio-economic interests is being destroyed from within by the Tipra Motha through unprecedented corruption and this must be stopped for the benefit of people living within ADC areas. He expressed the hope that the BJP-Tipra Motha government will lose the next assembly election if left forces fight hard in a united manner.
Before the conference began two minor artists Niharika Tripura and Tuisari Tripura had presented inaugural songs . The opening session of the conference was attended by Lalit Mohan Tripura, Jibit Bahan Chakma and NItanta Reang as members of the presidium. Senior other leaders of GMP addressed the delegate session later on and spoke on the same line , urging local party leaders to launch a determined struggle in the interest of people as well as to ensure victory of left forces in the upcoming election to ADC and the state assembly in 2026 and in 2028 respectively.
