In a shocking incident that shows the growing helplessness of animals deprived of their natural habitat and food in the wooded areas and even in the sanctuary meant for them, a monkey that had sneaked out of the Sepahijala wildlife sanctuary in search of food and water died today in a road mishap at Charilam on the road in front of the ‘Satsang Ashram’.

Sources from Charilam said that the lone monkey that had possibly sneaked out of the nearby Sepahijala sanctuary was trying to cross the road near the ‘Satsang Ashram’ when it was run over by a speeding Bolero vehicle. The Charilam forest beat office which always shows a strange difference to the fate of the animals including reptiles that come out of the sanctuary initially did not take any interest in the matter . But after repeated calls two beat employees came and took away the mortal remains of the luckless monkey for burial. The local people who generally refrain from harming all primates grieved over the issue.
