Tripura will soon begin registering farmers to introduce a Unique Farmer ID, much like the Aadhaar card, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath said yesterday. He stated that this initiative will create a unified and comprehensive database of every farmer in the state, aligned with national standards. According to the minister, this will not just be a data record but will become the backbone of a modern, efficient, and transparent agricultural system.
Speaking to reporters after an important meeting held at the State Secretariat, Nath explained that the registration drive will start shortly. The meeting was attended by the Agriculture Secretary, Director of Agriculture, Director of Horticulture, various departmental officials, BAC Chairmen and Sector Officers, many of whom joined via video conference.
The minister emphasised that one of the most crucial aspects of the Farmer Registry is that it will be mandatory for availing any government benefits, especially the PM-Kisan scheme. Through this registry, farmers can be assured that all financial assistance meant for them will reach their bank accounts directly, without delay and without the involvement of middlemen. This ensures that genuine farmers receive their entitled benefits at the right time.
Nath concluded that the Unique Farmer ID will play a transformative role in strengthening the delivery of government services and boosting transparency in Tripura’s agricultural sector.
