A major controversy has erupted over allegations of using substandard construction materials in a government funded market shed project at Chaumuhani Bazaar under Amtali Police Station. The accusations have been leveled against Oval Company Limited, a firm already under scrutiny for its alleged nexus with influential media parsons, political and administrative groups.

Residents of Chaumuhani Bazaar, along with local leaders, filed a public-interest case at Amtali Police Station, marking what they describe as an unprecedented step against a contractor agency. Locals claim that despite repeated objections, the company continued to use low-quality materials from the very beginning of the project.

According to residents, Oval Company Limited had been awarded the contract to construct a two-stall market shed. However, community members soon noticed the use of visibly inferior materials in the foundation and structural works. Prominent figures from the locality, including the panchayat pradhan and member representatives, registered strong protests, but the company allegedly ignored their objections and carried on with the disputed work.

Amid growing public dissatisfaction on less quality's government project work in his area, MLA Ramprasad Pal took a firm stand against what he described as the contractor mafia, accusing some groups of deliberately compromising the quality of government projects. He issued a stern warning to contractor agencies, declaring that poor-quality work would not be tolerated under any circumstancesin his Assembly constituency.

The MLA also pointed fingers at certain media individuals, accusing them of extending undue support to the contractor company during the controversy. He demanded strict, high-level investigation into the matter to uncover how such alleged malpractice continued despite public opposition.

Locals claim that Oval Company Limited has executed government contracts in several areas using similar methods, utilizing inferior materials, completing the work hastily, and collecting full payments without proper oversight. Allegations have surfaced that the company’s proximity to some influential circles has shielded it from accountability.

With a police case now filed and public pressure intensifying, demands for a comprehensive inquiry are growing louder. Residents insist that only a thorough investigation can reveal the full extent of irregularities and ensure accountability in government construction projects.
