Tripura Legislative Assembly Deputy Speaker and MLA Ram Prasad Paul has issued a stern warning against what he described as the growing influence of contractor mafias, declaring that such groups will no longer find any space within his Assembly constituency. Earlier, he was launched protests in street of his Assembly Constituency against drugs mafias.
Meanwhile, today in a strongly worded social media post, Paul lashed out at individuals involved in the alleged nexus of corruption, commission based dealings and mafia-style intimidation. He criticised those who pretend to be media intellectuals in daylight and operate like mafia groups in darkness, accusing them of extracting crores of rupees in commissions from contractors under the pretext of political and administrative influence.
Paul stated that this corrupt system of business, commission trade, and unethical media and political culture must end. He warned that several dishonest contractors had been enjoying undue benefits for years, but such privileges would no longer continue.
The Deputy Speaker specifically mentioned that within the Suryamaninagar Assembly constituency, no further opportunities would be given to individuals involved in corruption or exploitation of the contractor network.
Meanwhile, expressing dissatisfaction with the current organisational atmosphere, several BJP workers privately voiced frustration, stating that this commission business and personalised politics have weakened the original spirit of the BJP in Tripura.” They reflected that the organisation prior to 2018 functioned differently and alleged that many newcomers from opposition parties were now exploiting the system while genuine grassroots workers were being sidelined.
Paul’s statement is being seen as an attempt to restore discipline and integrity within the political and developmental framework of his constituency, signalling a renewed crackdown on corruption, syndicates and unlawful influence.
