Fresh outrage has erupted against IndiGo Airlines following serious allegations that the airline has moved from harassing passengers through sudden flight cancellations without prior notification to now cheating customers in the name of refunding ticket money. A recent incident involving a Tripura passenger has brought these concerns to the forefront and sparked widespread anger on social media.
A Tripura woman, who had booked an IndiGo flight to attend her own sister’s marriage ceremony, was forced to miss the event entirely after the airline abruptly cancelled the scheduled flight. Shockingly, she received no prior message from IndiGo informing her about the cancellation on 5 November. The lack of communication left her stranded at the airport, emotionally distressed, and burdened with unnecessary cab and travel expenses.
The issue escalated when the airline assured the family that the full ticket amount would be refunded. However, instead of the actual fare of Rs.19,584, IndiGo send SMS alerts agreed to refunded just Rs. 385, leading to allegations of deliberate deception.
The matter was strongly highlighted by Shri Kishalay Ghosh, a respected citizen, prominent businessman, and President of the Rotary Club of Agartala, who publicly criticized IndiGo Airlines on his social media platform. Tagging IndiGo (6E), the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Airports Authority of India, he condemned the airline’s conduct as unacceptable, irresponsible, and misleading.
Ghosh explained that his daughter had reached Delhi’s IGI Airport on 5 December 2025 for her scheduled IndiGo flight to Agartala. Only upon arrival did she learn that the flight had been cancelled. He stated that no advance SMS, email, or call was ever received from the airline.
He described her ordeal, noting that His daughter faced confusion, stress, and a lack of proper support from the airline staff at the Delhi airport. Ultimately, his daughter missed her sister’s wedding, a deep emotional loss for the entire family, solely due to IndiGo’s negligence.
The refund issue added further insult to injury. Despite assurances from IndiGo representatives that the entire ticket fare would be returned to the original mode of payment, the family received a message stating that just Rs. 385 to be refunded. Ghosh termed this a shocking betrayal of trust and evidence of unethical practices.
He wrote:
“IndiGo’s failure to inform us in advance caused immense hardship. My daughter was stranded and harassed at the airport, and then we were cheated by receiving only Rs. 385 as refund instead of Rs. 19,584. This is completely unacceptable and feels like a deliberate attempt to deny rightful compensation.
The incident has triggered public debate about airline accountability, transparency, and passenger rights. Many social media users have reported similar grievances, urging aviation authorities to take urgent action.
IndiGo Airlines has not yet issued an official response.
