MMD College Sabroom holds one day seminar on Green Earth

The Department of Physics, Michael Madhusudhan Dutta (MMD) College, Sabroom in collaboration with the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA), Dharmanagar Chapter, Government Degree College, Dharmanagar organized an one day seminar in the Swami Vivekananda Auditorium of the college today. The theme was: "Approach Towards Affordable and Sustainable Lifestyle for a Green Earth." The Indian Science Congress Association founded in 1914 to promote science education and research, is located in Kolkata. Every year, during the first week of January, its sessions are held in various cities across India. The association provides a platform for scientists to discuss their research and ideas, contributing to the promotion of science in India. Today's event was a part of this ongoing effort.

The event was inaugurated by Sri Kamal Bhowmik, Sub-Divisional Forest Officer (SDFO),Sabroom, also graced by Dr. Manik Bhattacharya and Dr. Suman Adhikari from Government Degree College, Dharmanagar. The keynote speaker was Dr. Rita Roy, scientist from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of Tripura, Agartala. The program was presided over by Dr. Anupam Guha Principal, MMD College. Attendees also included teachers from various schools in Sabroom, school students, faculty members and students of MMD College.

In the inaugural session, Dr. Rita Roy informed the audience about various innovative activities in science and technology. She emphasized that while we enjoy everything Mother Earth provides, we must also remember the importance of conservation and not waste our resources. The current situation urges us to be more conscious. Shri Bhowmik talks about planting trees regularly

and their disciplined maintenance. Dr. Bhattacharya and Dr. Adhikari discussed the activities of the Indian Science Congress Association and its role in Dharmanagar chapter, highlighting the importance of science and technology today. Dr. Guha stressed the need to protect biodiversity amid ongoing crises and urged students to be more aware. Welcoming and concluding remarks were given by Dr. Arup Patari and Dr. Dipankar Deb.

In the second session of the event, guest lecturer Dr. Rahul Saha and Dr. Biswajit Vaishnab from Dhamadeepa International Buddhist University, Sabroom shared insights on mushroom cultivation, its various benefits and importance of biodiversity conservation. Following the sessions, a science-based debate and quiz competition among students were organized and prizes were awarded. The entire program was smoothly conducted by retired professor Mrs. Mousumi Majumdar. The enthusiasm among the students was noteworthy throughout the event.
