A fresh controversy has sparked public anger in Tripura after police and BSF reportedly recovered a pistol from the house of Chiranjeet Shil, the driver of the Dhanpur Mandal President, yet no case was registered by the Officer-in-Charge of Jatrapur Police Station.
According to local reports, the firearm was seized yesterday during a joint operation. However, despite the seriousness of the offence, the OC of Jatrapur PS allegedly refrained from filing a case. Though Chiranjeet was expected to be taken to court, he was instead allowed to return home, a move that has intensified public distrust in the law-enforcement system.
Residents of the area have voiced sharp criticism, accusing the police of selective enforcement and questioning the integrity of the officers involved. Many alleged that bribe-taking officers are protecting influential individuals, turning guardians of the law into predators.
Locals expressed frustration, stating that the law is increasingly being applied only to the poor and powerless, while those with money and political backing continue to evade accountability. They claim that even with multiple alleged offences, influential individuals are rarely arrested, while innocent and powerless citizens are the ones who face legal pressure and wrongful detention.
The incident has deepened public scepticism toward the justice system, with many saying that people are losing faith in the law when law-enforcers themselves appear compromised.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations, and Dhanpur citizens are demanding immediate clarification, action against the responsible officers, and restoration of public trust.
