Senior tribal leader of ruling BJP’s ‘Jana Jati Morcha’, Vimal Chakma has launched a searing attack on what he termed as Tipra Motha chief Pradyot Kishore’s ‘politics of fakery’ . Interacting with the media in the BJP’s state headquarter alongside fellow leaders , Rebati Tripura and Bipin Debbarma, Vimal accused Pradyot of mischievous attempts to divide the tribals and non-tribals of the state, now living peacefully. “The tone and tenor of his speeches and statements reek of attempts to sow the poisonous seeds of disunity and hatred between the state’s two major communities ; in the recent rally at Swami Vivekananda ground Pradyot wilfully tried to provoke his audience , stating that Congress and CPI (M) easily access the ground for holding meetings but he had to struggle a lot for space therein ; this is a colossal falsehood because he would not have been able to hold his rally , unless the government had allotted it; he made the assertion with a dark and sinister motive” said Vimal.
He questioned Pradyot’s motive and flip flop behind the formation of the so-called ‘One northeast, One voice’ describing this as yet another gimmick. “His party has miserably failed to deliver on promises after capturing the ADC; his ‘Tipraland’ and ‘Greater Tipraland’ dreams lie shattered and tribal people have seen through his devious game of personal and familial agenda; the ADC reeling under the adverse impact of organised plundering can not even pay salaries and pensions to serving and retired employees on time, let alone develop the areas under its jurisdiction” said Vimal. He described as ‘most bizarre and worrrying’ the failure of ADC authority to have accounts audited by the AG as statutorily required. “The AG has been forced to write to the governor drawing his attention to the non-auditing of accounts of ADC ; this is a massive scam” said Vimal.
Describing Pradyot’s ‘northeast misadventure’as a ploy to divert the attention of tribal masses from his and the ADC’s all-round failure , Vimal said that Pradyot should ask the chief ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram why they have not passed resolutions in respective state assemblies supporting the 125th amendment of the constitution for further empowerment of ADC. “It is because of this that the 125th amendment is still stalled; Pradyot makes much of tribal chief minister in Tripura but he should introspect and raise questions on why two tribal chief ministers of Mizoram and Meghalaya have been sitting on the amendment bill so long when the amendment is aimed at bettering the lot of tribals” said Vimal.
He questioned Pradyot’s refrain on need for a tribal chief minister for Tripura, saying Dasharath Deb was a tribal chief minister but what great things he delivered for the tribals. “He should remember that a non-tribal chief minister (Dr Manik Saha)) has already sent the state assembly’s resolution supporting the 125th amendment of the constitution ; his attempt at polarising people of Tripura on ethnic lines is designed to provoke riots in the state but the people of Tripura understand everything ; we have seen riots in 1980 and this will never happen again ; there will be resistance and people cutting across ethnic identities are united to thwart Pradyot’s conspiracy” said Vimal.
