Former BJP MP Rebati Tripura has launched a sharp attack on TIPRA Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, alleging that he has begun pushing the idea of a new political formation named 'One North East' out of fear of losing his political relevance. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state headquarters, Rebati Tripura, accompanied by MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma, Bipin Debbarma and State Media In-charge Sunit Sarkar, accused Pradyot of attempting to spark unrest in Tripura by reviving the demand for a separate Tipra state under a new banner.

Rebati Tripura alleged that Pradyot is using slogans in the name of tribal development only to shine his own political future, adding that he could not succeed as Congress president and later aliens with the BJP in hopes of becoming Chief Minister. According to Rebati, Pradyot realised that becoming Chief Minister through BJP was not possible by taking a crooked path, and thus he revived the Greater Tipraland narrative while now floating the idea of One North East to create instability.

Rebati urged the people of both tribal and non-tribal communities in Tripura to remain alert against these provocative tactics which he described as attempts to ignite disharmony.

Rebati Tripura further claimed that the public rally organised by Pradyot at Astabal Ground under the One North East banner was merely an attempt to prove his own existence. He added that Pradyot’s new slogan is driven by the fear of losing relevance.

During the press conference, Rebati Tripura criticised the working condition of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), alleging that the ADC administration under TIPRA Motha has no financial discipline and is functioning without adhering to constitutional norms. He also remarked that Pradyot, despite being the son of a former Congress MP and minister, feels ashamed to use his parents’ identity and instead tries to project his grandfather's legacy.

He also questioned Pradyot’s courage, saying he only speaks boldly during the BJP era: “He has gained courage only during BJP’s rule.”

Rebati questioned Pradyot’s recent comments on ministers and asserted that the formation of a new state or division of Tripura is neither practical nor constitutionally viable.

Adding to the discussion, MDC Bimal Kanti Chakma gave an explanation regarding the murder of Ananda Roaja and alleged that conspiracies similar to those of previous years are resurfacing ahead of the 2028 elections. Chakma also questioned why TIPRA Motha did not field a candidate against Jitendra Choudhury in Sabroom. He further pointed out that tribal Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram did not support the 125th Constitutional Amendment Bill.

Rebati Tripura said that only time will tell what kind of political understanding will shape the 2026 ADC elections.

He reiterated that Pradyot changes his statements frequently,

raising the Tipraland demand at one moment and removing it from his dictionary at another. He also alleged that TIPRA Motha fielded 22 Bengali candidates in the 2023 Assembly elections while now blaming others for divisive politics.

According to Rebati, while the rest of the country is moving towards unity under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Pradyot is promoting provocative, contradictory and divisive statements. He asserted that under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, Tripura has achieved peace, ended insurgency, strengthened infrastructure and enhanced national identity.

Rebati concluded that TIPRA Motha leaders are attempting to mislead the public, disturb harmony, and destabilize peace in Tripura.
