Notorious drug peddler arrested in Sonamura with stock of contraband drugs, three gun runners detained in Amtoli police station area

In a joint operation with the BSF jawans posted along the border , a team of Sonamura police station this morning arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Shahinur Islam (21) from NC Nagar village near the subdivisional headquarter. A stock of 58 contraband and addictive Escough syrup bottles was seized from his possession. Giving details sources from Sonamura police station said that acting on a tip-off a team of Sonamura police station had secured back-up help from BSF jawans posted along the border and raided the residence of Shahinur Islam in NC Nagar village and made the recovery . The nabbed Shahinur who was arrested is being produced in court today and his remand will be obtained from court for further interrogation.

Apart from this, three gun runners , arrested from Bangeshwar bridge area under Amtoli police station on the night of November 24, were brought from court under police remand yesterday for interrogation . Police sources said that while patrolling on the Amtoli-bypass road a police van came across three youths on an auto-rickshaw numbered TR01N-2578 and found three youths in it with two pistols and four magazines. The youths who had been picked up were identified as Samaremdra Debbarma (40) and Tinku Debbarma (31) of Barkathal under Mohanpur subdivision and Shibesh Kumar (29) of Bihar. Police sources said that the youth from Bihar had actually sold the pistols and the magazines in lieu of payment. All three were produced in court yesterday and brought on three days of police remand for intensive interrogation for extracting information about the gun-running racket operating within the state. It is not yet known why the two youths of Barkathal had purchased the ‘Deshi’ pistols.
