Youth sustains bullet injury while trying to cross border into Bangladesh, battling for life in GBP hospital

An Indian youth, resident of Agnipasha village under Panisagar subdivision, sustained a bullet injury while trying to illegally cross over into Bangladesh yesterday. He is battling for life now in GBP hospital in a serious condition as the bullet is believed to have got stuck in his abdomen.

Giving details police sources said that Akash Das (28), son of Gopal Das of Agnispasha village in Panisagar subdivision, had tried to cross over into Bangladesh through the area under Brajendra Nagar border outpost (BOP) guarded by the BSF jawans of 97th battalion between the border pillars numbered 138-139 near the residence of one Sushil Das at around 10-00 AM. As the youth had not responded to ‘halt’ call of the patrolling BSF jawans and kept moving ahead one BSF jawan fired a bullet which directly pierced the abdomen of the youth named Akash Das.

He was taken in a serious and bleeding condition to the north district hospital in Dharma Nagar but the on-duty surgeon Dr Shubhendu Bhattacharjee got his andomen scanned and referred him to GBP hospital after first aid, saying that the bullet might have got stuck deep within his abdomen. Akash was rushed to GBP hospital and is reportedly struggling for life in a critical condition . He will need a major surgery to remove the bullet nestled deep within his abdomen, sources from GBP hospital said .
