The Banamalipur area of Agartala today witnessed a bizarre but pathetic scene as three old women aged over sixty sat in front of the chief minister Dr Manik Saha’s family home opposite to ‘Sri Krishna Mandir’ with three placards . The placards had the pathetic lines “kind hearted honourable chief minister , please save our lives and livelihood”. As soon as the women sat down on the ground, holding up the placards, a small crowd gathered there.

By querying the three aged women the crowd of people came to know that they had been at work as community health guide under the department of health and family welfare but recently they lost their jobs as the health department had issued a notification that from November 1 the services of community health guides above the age of sixty would no longer be required . After being retrenched from service the three community health guides lost their livelihood and came on a sit-in programme in front of the chief minister’s residence .

The chief minister Dr Manik Saha who had been preoccupied with other important works could not meet the three women . But after being informed of the situation the officer in charge of the East Agartala police station Subrata Debnath rushed to the spot and consoled the three old women , promising to take the matter to the notice of the government and arranged to send the three demonstrating women back home.
