The high court of Tripura has expressed resentment over the failure of the state government to comply with a directive and furnish information about the state of visually impaired persons and their representation in government service. The lacunae in the government affidavit filed in this regard was pointed out by advocate Purushottam Roybarman who represented the All Tripura Blind Association (ATBA) . This was followed by a fresh directive of the high court directing the state government to provide the entire information asked for in a fresh affidavit. The case was heard yesterday by the division bench of the high court comprising chief justice M.S.Ramchandra Rao and Justice Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha.

Sources in the high court said that in an order passed on August 14 this year the state government had directed the state government to furnish information about vacancies of jobs in the administration reserved for visually challenged persons or the blind and how many of them were filled up. At the same time the government was directed to provide information about implementation of the provisions made in the ‘Persons with Disabilities Act-2016’. These directives had been issued in response to pleas made in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed on behalf of the ATBA by advocate Purushottam Roybarman.

The case had come up afresh on November 19 and advocate Purushottam Roybarman pointed out the deficiencies and information gap in the affidavit filed by the state government in a delayed manner. Hearing the pleas made by advocate Purushottam Roybarman the division bench of chief justice M.S.Ramchandra Rao and justice Sabyasachi Datta Purkayastha expressed their resentment over the incomplete nature of the affidavit filed with so much delay and directed the state government to file a detailed affidavit providing all the information asked for soon. The case slated to come up again on December 17.
