In a new twist to the utter lawlessness in Bishalgarh amidst police inaction, a gang of miscreants had kidnapped a Muslim Rohingiya named Abdul Sukkur (38), resident of a colony near the Rohingiya refugee camp in Cox Bazar area of Chittagong in Bangladesh on last November 18 and brought him to Bishalgarh to extort hefty ransom . The miscreants had duped Abdul Sukkur by promising to give him a job in Dhaka and brought him to Bishalgarh across the border in Kasba area of Tripura. Sources from Bishalgarh said that the miscreants who are as yet unidentified had forced the man in their custody to speak to his family members asking for a ransom of Rs 20 lakhs to be paid to his tormentors. But on November 19 the family members expressed their inability to manage and pay the amount asked for by mobile phone. Infuriated by this the miscreants gave Abdul Sukkur a severe thrashing before dumping his injured body in Chelikhola area of Bishalgarh. The local people of Chelikhola saw Abdul Sukkur lying severely injured by the road side and arranged to have him sent to Bishalgarh hospital for treatment on November 20 morning.

After being informed of what had happened the incompetent and corrupt-to-the-bone Bishalgarh police registered two cases against Abdul Sukkur but have not yet taken any step to identify and arrest the culprits involved in the transborder abduction. Sources said that over the past several years the entire Bishalgarh subdivision has emerged as a valley of crimes because of political patronage and corrupt indulgence of police who are under the payroll of all categories of criminals including drug peddlers and smugglers.

The incompetence and corrupt nature of Bishalgarh police also stand proved by their activities as the officer in charge himself is riding a vehicle, seized by police, by pasting a new number plate on it. Earlier a massive scam had been caught in the SP (Sepahijala) office but no action was taken except transfer of the, SP. This was followed by another massive scam as the traffic inspector Amarjit Debbarma embezzled the huge amount of rs 1.25 crore collected by traffic police as penalty from vehicle owners for traffic rule violation over the past few years. Even though Amarjit is facing a case for this, his accomplices involved in the scam remain safe and sound. What is most amazing is that despite knowing most of what has been happening , the political establishment as well as high-ups in police have remained silent spectators in stead of taking any action.
