Minister Sushanta Chowdhury Highlights Importance of Legal Metrology at Statewide Discussion in Agartala

Tripura’s Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury attended and addressed a discussion circle titled 'Laws of Legal Metrology' held today at a private hotel in Agartala. The program was organized by the Legal Metrology wing under the Department of Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs, Government of Tripura.The event focused on recent amendments introduced under Legal Metrology laws and the future policy roadmap of the Government of India in the field of legal measurement. In his address, the Minister emphasized that public awareness, along with ethical conduct of both consumers and traders, is vital for overall development of the nation and the state. He noted that accurate measurement plays a crucial role in maintaining quality standards of products and ensuring transparency in trade. Legal Metrology ensures that weighing and measuring instruments used in commercial transactions adhere to standardized norms, thereby safeguarding consumer interests. The Minister urged citizens to remain alert to the importance of correct weights and measurements in their day-to-day purchases.

Among distinguished guests in attendance were Debapriya Bardhan, Secretary of the Food, Public Distribution & Consumer Affairs Department; Ashutosh Agarwal, Director of the Consumer & Legal Metrology Department, Government of India, Dr. Rajeshwar Kumar, Director of the Indian Institute of Legal Metrology, Sub-Divisional Magistrates from across the state, representatives of the Petroleum Dealers Association, senior officials from Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL), members of fair-price shop operators associations, traders associated with Legal Metrology, hotel industry associations, representatives of various business bodies and officers and staff of the Legal Metrology wing.
