Tension has once again gripped Khumulwng on Thursday evening as a fresh wave of political violence erupted, leading to widespread vandalism and multiple families fleeing their homes in fear. The violence reportedly targeted BJP workers and supporters, escalating the already volatile situation in the region.

Local sources reported that miscreants set ablaze the local BJP party office, while several homes belonging to BJP workers were vandalized and looted. A large number of people have fled their homes to escape further violence.

One of the most shocking incidents occurred in Joy Krishna Kabra Para, where the house of BJP worker Shahid Debbarma was allegedly attacked. According to reports, the attackers failed to locate Shahid at home and consequently vandalized the entire house. Household items including the television, refrigerator, inverter, and furniture were destroyed.

Shahid’s wife claimed that she pleaded with the attackers to stop and even fell at their feet, but was pushed aside as the attackers continued the rampage without restraint. The family has accused TIPRA Motha supporters of carrying out the attack.

As soon as the incident was reported, Radha Pur Police Station personnel rushed to the spot. Later, Jirania Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO), along with West District Additional SP Himadri Das and a large contingent of security forces, arrived to bring the situation under control. Police forces continue to be deployed in large numbers amid fears of further escalation.

Panic prevails among residents of the area, with many fearing that political clashes could intensify at any moment.

Over the past several days, Takarjala, Jampuijala, and Khumulwng have witnessed multiple incidents of political violence. The unrest reportedly began shortly after a mass joining programme in Takarjala, where a large number of TIPRA Motha supporters joined the BJP in the presence of the Chief Minister. Following this event, consecutive attacks on BJP leaders and workers were reported across Takarjala, Jampuijala, and Khumulwng.

The tense situation has also prompted senior police officers from Agartala to rush to the conflict zones to oversee security measures.
