All Tripura body building and fitness competition to come off on December 1 in Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan

Tripura had once been a rich state in terms of the sporting discipline of body building and weight lifting till the late seventies. It was during those glorious days that a number of body builders had made their mark at the national level and among them was achiever Dulal Debbarma who had become a champion at the national and Asian level as a body builder. Those days are long past .
But this year the Tripura Body Building and Fitness Association (BBFA), an affiliate of the Indian Body Builders Federation (IBBF), is organising a one-day state championship in body building and fitness competition in Agartala’s Rabindra Shata Varshiki Bhawan (Hal No-1) on December 1. The competition is confined to participants from within the state only and a prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh has been kept for distribution among successful participants in various categories.
Briefing media persons about the competition the president of the TBBFA Tanay Das said that the national youth icon and national champion body builder Nitin Chandia will attend the competition as a special guest . “The competition will start at 12-00 PM in presence of food and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury and minister for sports and youth programme Tinku Roy; they will inaugurate the competition and address the gathering of body builders before the competition proper begins” said Tanay Das. The registration of participants in the competition commenced at least one month ago and already 170 body builders of the state have registered their names for the competition. Tanay Das expressed the hope that the upcoming body building competition will achieve a grand success and this ancient branch of sports will receive a major boost in the state.
